The Mississippi Forge Council (MFC) typically meets on the third Saturday of each month (EXCEPT when special events are scheduled) at the Agricultural and Forestry Museum on Lakeland Dr (Hwy 25) in Jackson MS. The meetings start at 9:00 A.M. with a very short business meeting, then a demonstration on selected techniques. If you have any questions about the meeting dates or time feel free to contact any of the board members for info. Their phone numbers and emails addresses are listed in the “Contact Us” tab.
To see our meeting schedule check out the links to the right, or go to our calendar.
After the demo, members can get into the forges with the demonstrator and practice what they saw. At that time we also may have a beginner’s class (green coal class) that introduces the absolute basics of blacksmithing to beginners. The green coal class can last from a few minutes up to 3 hours and is free. The beginner doesn’t have to feel obligated to stay the whole time. You don’t have to be a member of the MFC to participate in the green coal class.
Membership is $30 per year and includes our publication, The UPSET. All dues are due January 1 of each year. Prorating is acceptable if necessary.

Whatever your interest or skill level is we can accommodate your interest in pursuing metalsmithing techniques. We have a very talented, not for profit, organization dedicated to learning, demonstrating and teaching.
We occasionally offer classes on a particular subject by either our members or a guest demonstrator. These classes are not free, but the cost covers your materials, sometimes meals, and helps fund the organization. Classes are usually limited in size and are on a first-come-first-served basis. Class prices will vary and you can find the price, instructions on where to send the check, and more details about the class on the posts for the classes at the right or on our calendar.
We also encourage our members to attend other events related to blacksmithing and our organization. These include events such as ABANA Conferences, Alabama Forge Council conferences, MFC Clean Up days, etc. For more information about past or upcoming events, see the links at the right or our calendar.
Iron in the Hat is a fun fundraising raffle we hold at all MFC events. We encourage members to bring raw metal or completed pieces to donate for the raffle. Items will be laid out and tickets will be sold for a chance to win each item donated. You can purchase any number of tickets and place any number of tickets toward any item or items you wish to win. Obviously, the more entries you have for an item, the more likely you are to win it. These funds help us replace and repair tools for the shop and cover our expenses. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
